Knies Tavares nylander
Robertson holmberg mcmann
Wahlstrom Kampf jarnkrok

Pelech Dobson
McCabe Benoit
Edmundson lily

Sorokin woll

dont have a 25 1st rounder. and I highly doubt they trade dobson.

2.) 12 May 2024 17:01:13
Damn forgot we traded thst.

3.) 12 May 2024 17:06:26
I like the deal, but I just don't think you're ever getting Dobson for less than Mathews. Stud 1D just aren't traded.

4.) 12 May 2024 23:05:11
3rd pairing is awful.

5.) 13 May 2024 03:13:31
Teams tend not to trade 24 year old, #1 defensemen who are top 10 at their position in the League (Makar, Hughes, Jossi, Heiskanen, Fox, Slavin, MCAvoy, Dobson…. )
Nor do they often trade a #1 goaltender who is probably in the top 6 among goaltenders in the league.

Someone been shopping at Sherborne and shuter again.

2.) 08 May 2024 03:26:39
Huberdeau and Kadri at 50% retention for Marner.
Really?

Bizzare proposals.

This page is much more enjoyable to read when the proposals are based on reality!

Randy 2

You don't trade Marner you build depth Dallas has 8 twenty goal scorers the Leafs had 5

The good news for leafs is three young guys are going to pass 20 goals next season

Knies
McMann
Robertson

If leafs are wise Cowan makes team he can't do any more with London. He could get 20 goals as a rookie

Let's fill out lineup spots are scarce

Domi Matthews Cowan
Knives Tavaras Nylander
Mcmann Stamkos Marner
Reaves Holmberg Robertson

That's a much better team up front right there.

2.) 07 May 2024 19:15:24
Hard to ask Cowan to start as a RW when he’s a left handed shooting centre.

03 May 2024 19:27:54
Tor: Marner 50%, lily

Nyr: laf, kaako, Schneider.

Randy2

1.) 04 May 2024 13:08:24
That helps NYR's cap, but not great for the Leafs. After next season, the Leafs will have Knies, Woll and Holmberg looking for new deals as well as Laf after this deal and JT if they want to keep him. Tons of cap space, but only 8 players currently signed beyond next season. Leafs also have to find a way to sign Kakko and Schneider for next season while retaining $5.45M on Marner. It's doable, I can't see the Leafs willing to retain 50% on Marner unless the deal is overwhelming and not sure if this quite there. Maybe though.

2.) 04 May 2024 17:42:02
I was just trying to play off the other one, would a first be enough to get it done for you. Considering it's a 1st 2nd and 17th overall so far.

3.) 04 May 2024 19:35:21
I hear you. I know why you posted it Randy. I replied based on your post at the end of the other prop and replied to your prop based off your post there. For me, what you posted would be enough, but I was more thinking from what I feel a Leaf management prospective would be. If Rangers added a 1st, I think Leafs would have a tough time saying no.

Targeting Marner in trades I get. marner will not waive to go to a dry state, the dude likes to party. The incentive would have to be like captaincy to get Marner to waive to go to Utah. Even that might not do it.

1.) 13 May 2024 16:46:32
I think you might be taking this forum a bit to seriously if you’re posting and telling people their mock trades are not good.

06 May 2024 18:41:38
Out of curiosity, based on a trade suggestion I put forward before jack Hughes was drafted would you guys trade, Matthews for Hughes hischier, and holtz. Mind you holt, could be different. Due to the trade.

Before Hughes was drafted, I suggested trading Matthews for hischier and the 19 and 20 1sts. The responses were almost entirely negative.

Just curious what people think now?

It worked out well for the prop because NJ sucked those two seasons and they picked 1st and then 7th overall. I have to be honest, I don't like the "would you now" on deals that were for picks that nobody knew where the team was going to pick in the future.

It's like the Kessel to Toronto deal. Of course since the picks ended up 2nd and 9th overall, I would have laughed at the Kessel deal. The thought was they would both be mid teens or worse picks when the trade was made and most weren't too concerned. People got mad when Toronto sucked and the picks ended up being high picks.

Now, If you posted that trade after Hughes was drafted, just before the 2020 draft when we knew NJ was picking 7th overall and the deal was Matthews for Hischier, Hughes and the 7th overall, I am sure some would have been thinking "maybe" at the least, if not yes. If NJ was picking 16/ 17 instead of 7th, it isn't as appealing.

A couple years ago I had posted something like Nylander to Buffalo for Tuch, Jokiharju and Peterka. I got blasted and told Peterka will never be an NHLer, Tuch is a 2nd/ 3rd liner and Jokiharju isn't good enough defensively. No way giving up Nylander for that. In this deal the players were already known, so it's different. I am sure many would take it now.

Anyhow, yours was a solid prop that turned out to be a blockbuster prop in the end. Kudos.

2.) 07 May 2024 01:18:48
@Randy pretty much as RLF put it. The big problem with trades for futures is they could turn into nothing. That scares most of us. Mcdavid turned into mcdavid, but he could have also been another Nail Yakupov.

Until players are in the NHL (and even then), we really don't know what they're worth.

3.) 07 May 2024 13:39:29
The funny thing is I did put that just before the Hughes draft. (Jersey locked in Hughes) The only one we didn't know about was holtz.

4.) 07 May 2024 15:17:55
Randy. I get what you are saying. The point is that no one knew for sure how Quinn would workout. He has had his share of injuries so far and that is a concern. Also, didn't know where the next 1st (2020) would be in the draft yet. Would it be a top 5? 6-10?, 10-20 pick? Typically, outside the top 12, it gets dicey on how well these guys will work out. Jarvis went 13 and Mercer 18 in the 2020 draft. Other than that, outside the top 12 there are not a lot of budding top 6 forwards or top 4 D. Ironically Holtz may be a miss, but someone else may have taken Quinn or Perfetti instead with that 7th pick.
Like I said, it looks like a blockbuster deal now because of how well Hughes and Hischier have played and I am sure if you threw it out now, you would get some or many yeses. Let's not forget Matthews was considered a generational player. Hughes and Hischier were not. I'm still not sure I would make the deal tbh.

So a breakdown of this team

Want gone

Marner
Samsonov
Brodie
Gio
Bush

Want to stay

Matthews nylander knies edmundson woll domi Benoit

Has to stay due to money

Tavares

Don't really care if they are on the team or not next year

The rest.
Yes Reilly and McCabe included.

Randy2

1.) 06 May 2024 04:10:39
What's your problem with McCabe? He's been great.

2.) 06 May 2024 12:26:45
No crap. McCabe was our best D in the playoffs and the leader back there while Morgan took the year off.

3.) 06 May 2024 13:09:29
Randy. McCabe? Have to echo the others here. At $2M, how do you find better than McCabe? He's a warrior type logging 21 and a half mins a night and playing the toughest minutes. The pair of McCabe/ Benoit played the toughest minutes. Benoit was the weaker of the pair.

4.) 06 May 2024 13:37:34
He just looked scared to play a game 7. I thought he was one of worst D in that game. I don't have an issue with McCabe, just don't care whether he's with the team or not. Could also just be salty towards him from his game 7 performance. He was on the fence for me for keep at all costs and don't care.

@leafslife.

I can admit when I'm wrong, Jones did not play well, little help from the team but that's been ongoing last few weeks.

Boston in 6

Randy2

1.) 18 Apr 2024 19:13:21
Not sure any of them have played well though lol. Goalies+team look like garbage.

2.) 18 Apr 2024 20:33:35
It was a team total non-effort.

14 Apr 2024 03:45:18
Also that 4th goal was awful but the other 4 samsonov gets 0 blame.

Quenneville has proven he will do anything to win. Need a bit of that in Toronto. To me, his involvement has never become public, so it's not for us to judge. He may have been heavily involved, it may have come to him in passing, and he made a mistake not acting upon it. If Bettman clears him we can assume he has learned what he had to learn. I don't think much of him, but he wouldn't let him come back if he isn't reformed.

I agree with both of you, Minnesota doesn't do it because of dead cap, Toronto honestly is overpaying here.

We probably take Zegras with this as well and what ever kind of salary dump they want to offset the 22 million we send their way.

If he doesn't agree to waive, or sign at 8 million let him rot on the 4th line and no pp time.

Also the winner was 100 % Sammy's fault. He had so much time to play that puck. He was just scared and didn't do anything to play that right. Others are at fault to for poor coverage, but that puck should have been gone as soon as Sammy saw pasta flying passed marner.

@Rsears he didn't have his blade positioned for a shot at all, it is harder to fake shot or pass on strong side, but still.
