tor: marner, abruzees

utah: bjugstad, conor geekie, maverick lamereau, 2024 2nd (#38 or toronto 2025 2nd round pick)

leafs get bigger and free up plenty of cap space. bjugstad can play center or RW, and geekie is a propect 6'3" LH C/ LW. while lamareau is 6'7 who I really hoped the leafs would draft last year, but cowen isn't too bad of a consolation prize so far.

I don't think the Leafs get this much for Marner, but maybe the return will surprise me in a good way if he is moved.

2.) 11 May 2024 18:08:50
Ooh I know I overvalued Marner. Not too much, but also look at the return treliving has possibility. I'd be okay with lilgren going this season. To help balance.

Tor: Reilly

Tb: sergachev

This is a business move so to say. Tampa Bay gets 1m in cap space. While Toronto backs up their word by meaning business. Could ask a 3rd rate prospect (Kessler or petruzelli for better enticement)

Tor: marner

St Louis: parayko, 24 1st

---

Tor signs Dumba 4x3y
Tor resigns Edmunson 2x3y

Here's where the option comes in

Pesce or Montour 6x5y - both provide different styles, Montour is more aggressive while pesce is similar in style to parayko. Both are take away machines and block shots (parayko is way better of the 2).

-------

Reilly - parayko
McCabe - Dumba
Edmunson - Montour/ pesce
*****
Pk maccabe-parayko / Edmunson - Dumba - breaks up McCabe and Dumba with more secured pk men. Coming out of the pk your have Reilly/ Montour/ pesce (this is where pesce and parayko having similar skills would coming in the most handy
*****
Pp Reilly #1, parayko/ Montour #2. The first unit is more precision while the second unit is more pointed to point shots. And generating rebounds. Coming out you're back to McCabe and Dumba, hitters I'd be calling the bash brothers. Who can still continue sustained pressure if needed.
*****

This grouping offers 3 different options thru the back end. Money wise, you get 4.4m free from Marners trade. With lilgren and Timmins that could be moved out. You add another cost of 12m so in reality your new look d core costs you 8m leaving 12m of the remaining salary cap space for a couple of forwards.

Not sure why you would want to sign Dumba when Matt Roy and Sean Walker, far superior defensemen are also going to be available in free agency as well.
I would even prefer to see Leafs sign 34 year old Chris Tanev (whom I don’t want them to sign) rather than Dumba.

tor: marner, liljigren

ana: Gibson (50%), 2024 1st (ana), 2023 3rd (SJ), 2025 3rd (tor)

or

tor: marner

Utah: bjugstad, 2024 2nd (utah), 2024 3rd (edmonton), 2x 2025 2nd (utah, Tor)

this brings in a couple more bullets and frees up substantial cap space to bring in actual defenseman. targets could be 2 of: pesce, montour, skjei, dumba, demelo,

A 2nd and two 3rds plus Bujgstad from Utah for Marner isn’t even close to enough.
Keller or Crouse or Durzi or McBain has to be in the package.

Not a Gibson fan.
It’s been 3 or 4 years since he was a top 6 goaltender in the NHL.
I don’t see Gibson as being much better than Samsonov which isn’t good enough.
That looks more like a 1st and two 3rds for Marner and Liljegren.

2.) 28 Apr 2024 04:10:07
You mean to tell me a goalie with an ungodly rubbish team infront of him doesn't look good. yeah no worries. He didn't look as good after his good defensemen retired. Remember last season, Benoit was considered the worst player in the NHL playing for Anaheim. As for the 1st round pick, where's Anaheim in the standings so how good is that first.

As for bjugstad, you're just like most other people. Unless the traded doesn't massively look like the Leafs clearly win they don't want it. He's 6'6", putting up points making 2.1m / yr. He's over 50% faceoffs, hits and plays the pk. They don't have a first beyond their own, so they aren't going to trade it as a "new" club. And it's 3x 2nd 1x 3rd.

3.) 29 Apr 2024 07:38:01
I like Gibson. Everytime I see him play he looks good.

Ducks are a train wreck. Have a hard time judging guys out of there.

I'd probably look on the cheaper side for a goalie nonetheless. I think Woll can tandem and very few great goalies exist.

Tor: liljigren

Cal: sharagovich

Simple 1 for 1 adds a higher skilled center into our mix for next season, and lily can figure out how to play somewhere else.

Hrenklin

1.) 27 Apr 2024 01:12:21
Sharangovich is a 30 goal scorer.
No way you get him for Liljegren despite his high plus/ minus stats.

Anyone else starting to feel like this season is going to end up as a wash and they just trade out their UFAs to bring in assets.

Hrenklin

1.) 29 Nov 2023 13:12:10
Hrenklin. We are basically having this discussion below. So, yea, I think a few of this could see this happening.

01 Oct 2023 20:53:55
philippe myers was placed on waivers. might be a decent pick up for a big bodied RHD.

Hrenklin

1.) 01 Oct 2023 22:34:02
Always liked the idea of Myers as bottom pair D. jeans gave passed on him before . might be time with timmins injury . if only he used that big frame of his more than ge does.

2.) 02 Oct 2023 00:17:17
Not a big fan of Myers. I'd rather keep what we have.

3.) 02 Oct 2023 01:58:55
I've always liked P. Myers. Seemed to have all the tools etc, but just fell off the cliff. Confidence issue? The $1.4M contract is a problem.

so ive ben thinking

which players would you consider trading knies for? i know hes a young prospect that doesnt look out of place on the leafs, but, we need to upgrade.

id consider knies for a few players if it came with multiple years of service

trouba: is exactly the type of player the leafs need. still has 3 years on his contrat and is NYR rangers captian so its a pipe dream.

but in a deal for like Elias lindholm (50% retained this year) at 6yr x 8m extension or 7x7 for knies and a 1st would be a considearion. or in a larger package for like bedard or something absolutely crazy.

who would you guys trade him for?

Hrenklin

1.) 20 Aug 2023 16:38:26
I'd trade him for a lot of players. The main issue is finding a team that has a solid top6/ 4 peice, they don't want, and he has to be on a rebuilding team.

2.) 20 Aug 2023 16:55:23
Hrenklin. Good question. Definitely Lindholm would be one I would consider as long as Lindholm will extend as you said. Then it would be moving Willy for younger prospects and hopefully a D.
In a package to get Dobson, I would possibly.
He is not untouchable to me, but not far off because our prospect pool is so bad for guys with size that can play.

3.) 22 Aug 2023 18:07:26
Had to think about this one for a few days. tough thing about moving Knies is the cap issues we have. so can't just be moving knies out. would still need to move Willy out. I think I'd move move him and maybe a first for Konecny. we would not need Knies if top six is like this.

Bertuzzi. Matthews. Marner
Domi. Tavares. konecny

Then maybe Willy can be moved for a topD like Dobson and something to improve bottom 6.

4.) 23 Aug 2023 01:56:35
I agree with all here.

It's a very interesting suggestion, especially because of how his end of season/ playoffs went.

Very good topic @Hrenklin

As much as I like Knies, he could be one of many that start out fantastic, and turn to poo. It's worth a look at least.

5.) 23 Aug 2023 03:14:01
@LL I agree. likethevudea if Knies and the fact he played as well as he did just jumping onto the team and blending in so well. he's at hs highest potential in a way as everyone expects good things and he worked out well. night be time to strike when iron is hot. he plays the coaches style if hockey in a rebuilding teamwhere as my original idea of moving willy there does not fit theur rebuild. konecny wont come cheap. so maybe konecny at 50% for Knies to ertson and a 1st round pick. then move Willy ut for defensive D. I like Dobson but is he not more of an offensive Dman?

03 Dec 2022 15:51:13
Thoughts on claiming Myers from the waiver wire. 2.5m is pricy, but, we can probably make some things works once players get healthy.

Hrenklin

1.) 03 Dec 2022 22:52:43
Leafs cannot make any waiver claim at the moment.
They have 50 contracts.

31 Jul 2021 00:21:18
So what are the leafs going to give up to get pk subban at the deadline 50% retained? I think that's the top trick up dubas's sleeve.

Hrenklin

1.) 31 Jul 2021 06:29:41
What's the point in adding PK? Is it so he can play 3rd pair?

2.) 31 Jul 2021 11:43:40
Kyle wants everyone to see him do his stupid skating drills irl so everyone can laugh.

3.) 31 Jul 2021 12:18:14
@LG lmao.

I think MacTavish is the least likely to be traded by the ducks. Word is he's likely to be their next captian.

Montour and pesce are both likely going to land in the 6-7 range on the deals. Debrusk is looking to be 5m so maybe you can get by at 4.5.

Ideally if the Leafs can sign pesce and and Montour. You can trade Marner for either a stud goalie, or a bunch of picks.

Stop targetting left handed defensement, and understand Domi is likely to sign for around 4yr 4.5m.
